Meet the Artist

Franz Johansen

Franz Johansen (1928-2018) was a Utah artist of note. Some of his better-known works include the large cast stone relief over the entrance to the Museum of Church History and Art in Salt  Lake City, the bronze plaques on the doors and gates of the Washington DC LDS Temple, the bronze relief on the Joseph Smith Building on the BYU campus, and a life-sized hand cart and family exhibited at the Visitor!s Center at Winter Quarters, Nebraska. Franz’s European training and the influence of the theology of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are evident in his ongoing exploration of the human figure within the theme of resurrection.
