Bobbie Carlyle

The Future’s So Bright… I Gotta Wear Shades by Bobbie Carlyle captures a moment of sunlit confidence and quiet ambition.

A young woman stands suspended between ease and intention, her relaxed posture grounded in the present while her upward energy suggests a future still unfolding. With sunglasses shielding her gaze, she faces the light—both literal and symbolic—embodying optimism, independence, and possibility.

Carlyle’s work often explores the human experience through gesture, expression, and form. In this piece, light becomes a central metaphor, representing hope, direction, and self-belief. The sculpture balances playfulness with purpose, inviting viewers to reflect on their own journey—where moments of joy and reflection coexist with aspiration and growth.

An internationally recognized sculptor, Carlyle is best known for her iconic work Self Made Man, which depicts a figure carving himself from stone—a powerful symbol of determination and self-creation. With more than four decades of experience and works installed around the world, her career reflects a deep commitment to storytelling through sculpture.

Carlyle earned her Fine Art degree from Brigham Young University and draws inspiration from masters such as Michelangelo, Auguste Rodin, Gutzon Borglum, Daniel Chester French, and Leonardo Bistolfi. Her work is also shaped by personal experience, drawing from a life of resilience, insight, and the influence of raising seven children—elements that continue to inform the emotional depth of her sculptures.

I create monumental bronze sculptures that capture bold strength and provocative intelligence. My figures go beyond first impressions to challenge the intellect and cause the viewer to look within themselves for greater meaning. My work reflects my love for classic sculpture, while presenting a modern approach with its presentation and a psychological approach for connection to the struggles and triumphs of life.
