Daniel Borup

Steady by Daniel Borup brings humor, balance, and determination together in an unexpected way.

Three tortoises stack and balance in a playful acrobatic formation, transforming a creature known for slowness into a symbol of agility and persistence. The sculpture invites a second look, drawing viewers into its lighthearted energy while quietly reinforcing a deeper message.

Inspired by the familiar story of the tortoise and the hare, Steady celebrates patience, consistency, and quiet strength. The imagined voice of the top tortoise calling down, “steady… steady… just keep steady,” adds a narrative layer that connects the viewer to the piece. What begins as a whimsical scene becomes a reminder that progress does not require speed, only persistence.

Borup’s work consistently reflects positive and uplifting themes, often using animals and figurative elements to communicate ideas that are accessible to a broad audience. His sculptures are designed to engage communities, bringing moments of curiosity, joy, and reflection into everyday public spaces.

A nationally recognized sculptor, Borup has created public art across the country for libraries, parks, schools, city centers, and civic institutions. He studied sculpture in college and has continued to refine his craft through years of dedicated practice.

In addition to his studio work, he taught art for fifteen years and now serves as an adjunct sculpture instructor at Brigham Young University–Idaho. He is also the Idaho ambassador for the National Sculpture Society, continuing his commitment to both art and community.
