Karen Coburn

Rhapsody

RHAPSODY was inspired by the classical music Karen listens to while sculpting. Works by
Liszt, Debussy, and Gershwin (and of course, Queen) helped this piece achieve a sense of
improvisation and a free-flowing form, while still being part of an integrated, whole expression
of the artist’s themes of joy and movement. This sculpture was created – as are all of Karen’s
works – via the lost-wax cast bronze process. The body has a silver nitrate patina and is
surrounded by a highly polished bronze ribbon, finished in an industrial-strength acrylic.
