Freedom to Roam

Freedom to Roam is an eco-friendly and sustainable figurative sculpture crafted by welding different reclaimed metal components generated from decades of salvaging and collecting. Intricacy and details are achieved by using a variety of specialized techniques including forging, welding, grinding, polishing, and painting. This inspiration to build a life-size bison came from my “backyard” of Montana so to speak. As the largest current living land animal in North America, the bison is an emblem of strength, resilience, and freedom. Nearing extinction at one point in time, it has been through substantial conservation efforts that this grande animal has been revived and continues to inspire both ecological restoration and cultural resiliency. It is an American success story, and I believe one to be celebrated. This sculpture will play a role in the preservation of cultural heritage and serves as a tangible representation of our society’s history, beliefs, and values.
