Brek Farley was born in 2009 – yes, he’s only 14. He started welding on his tenth birthday, and he loved every minute of it. On Day One he was trying to create sculptures just like his dad. After a couple of years of practice, he started making heads turn, and making sales at the same time. This is just the beginning – watch out for the future, and what he’ll come up with next.

My sculpture is a dead branch with different creatures crawling around. Although it is dead, the creatures make it their own. They don’t see death, they see another opportunity for a new home.

In my family, the kids get to learn how to weld when they are 10. My dad is a welder who creates large sculptures out of recycled metal. Before I was old enough to weld, I grew up helping him in the shop. I swept the floor, helped sort the recycled metal; anything to be with my dad. Then I turned 10 and I was finally able to weld. After I did it for the first time, I knew I wanted to make something cool, and that means something to me. I love welding, and I will keep making bigger and better sculptures.
