For centuries, the blacksmith has been a master of utilitarian sculpture. Today, the craft of the artist-blacksmith remains entrenched in that respected tradition; to create lasting beauty from iron. When it gets red-hot, iron takes on a malleable quality that, with the right tools and experience, can be formed into a limitless variety of shapes and forms. The artist’s creativity flows easily into the red-hot iron and once it cools, you can rest assure that the piece will remain intact for generations.

Paul Reimer began his career as an artist-blacksmith at the age of 15 and over the past 30 years he has been commissioned to produce large-scale residential, commercial and public art projects across North America. His sculptures and artistic furniture are featured in galleries in The US and Canada and his work is collected by art enthusiasts in many countries around the world.

He takes inspiration from a variety of sources; architecture and design, culture, history, relationships and nature. Paul takes pride in being “hands-on” in every phase of the creative process. He designs, creates and installs every piece of art he is commissioned to produce.

For thousands of years and across innumerable cultures, bird nests have been a symbol of home, protection and prosperity. They speak to building a strong foundation for family and community, to abundance and to the potential for the future.

The nest embodies ingenuity and hard work – the foundations necessary to build home and community. Nestled safely inside is a golden egg, a symbol of the prosperity and potential made possible by strong, vital communities.

This light-hearted sculpture conveys a powerful message; that amidst the challenges and complexity of life, there is always the promise of growth, beauty, and opportunity.

I create all my sculptures using centuries-old blacksmithing techniques and I very much enjoy using the skills I’ve honed over 35 years to produce an image of something as fragile and delicate as a bird nest and egg in a form that is durable enough to last for generations.

For thousands of years and across innumerable cultures, feathers have represented a connection to the spiritual. They are not only a physical symbol of flight and freedom, but also symbolic of spiritual evolution. Universally, feathers are a positive and uplifting image, bringing to mind freedom, truth, courage, travel, spirituality and more. This feather is hand-forged steel and is finished with an industrial enamel, giving it a durable, weather-resistant finish. I take inspiration from a variety of sources, including architecture and design, culture, history, relationships and nature. I am “hands-on” in every phase of the creative process, and I design, create and install every piece of art I am commissioned to produce.
