Tamara Robertson

Alfred, Josephine, et Hazel de la Flamboyance by Tamara Robertson brings playful energy and personality to a familiar form.

Inspired by water birds, the trio captures movement, curiosity, and a touch of humor, blending observation with imagination. Each figure stands with its own presence, yet together they form a small flock that feels lively and full of character.

Tamara Robertson

Robertson’s work draws heavily from her natural surroundings in the cypress forests of northwest Louisiana. Frequent encounters with herons, egrets, pelicans, and other waterfowl inform her sculptural language, while a long-standing affection for whimsical elements adds a sense of surprise. In this piece, those influences come together in forms that feel recognizable but not fixed, allowing viewers to bring their own interpretations and memories to the work.

Material and process are central to her practice. Using reclaimed steel, Robertson cleans, shapes, welds, and finishes each sculpture by hand. The individual bases reflect the shifting patterns of water, adding another layer of movement and variation to the composition. Each piece carries evidence of both the material’s past life and the artist’s direct engagement with it.

Originally from Texas, Robertson has worked as a full-time sculptor since 2009, after beginning her career in graphic design. Her work has been exhibited in solo, group, and public art exhibitions and is held in collections across the country. Through her sculptures, she continues to create work that feels both familiar and unexpected, grounded in nature while open to imagination.

Tamara started rolling rings and bending metal for “Open Heart” not knowing what these elements were ultimately going to be. As she began to accumulate a large number of rings and curves she started laying them out in different patterns and silhouettes to see what this particular pile of metal shapes wanted to mature into. During this time in the back of Tamara’s mind was rolling around how the world is in need of more love, empathy, and understanding. Open Heart was born!

Tamara performed all the welding, metal bending, and ring manufacturing of this sculpture.
